About Abraham: Our Story, Hostels and Tours

Abraham began in Jerusalem in 2010 with a simple idea: travel is better when people have somewhere to meet, share a meal and learn from those who live in the places they visit. What started as a hostel and a small selection of tours became a network of accommodation, guided experiences and community projects in Israel and beyond.

Today, Abraham operates social accommodation in Tel Aviv, Eilat and Bohol in the Philippines, alongside experiences offered through Abraham Tlalim Tours. Our history also includes hostels in Jerusalem and Nazareth. Those two properties are not currently available to book; they closed during the disruption to tourism in 2024. We prefer to make that distinction clear rather than send travelers to a room they cannot reserve.

How Abraham started

Our first hostel opened in Jerusalem in 2010. The idea was not to build another place where travelers slept and left. We wanted shared kitchens and common rooms that worked as meeting places, staff who could explain the city without a script, and tours that brought visitors into contact with local people.

Over time, the work grew beyond a single city. Tel Aviv offered a home base for beaches, independent culture and late evenings. Eilat gave travelers a way to combine the Red Sea with the surrounding desert. The Philippines brought a different setting for the same approach to social travel.

Where can you stay with Abraham?

Availability, room types and facilities change, so the official property pages are the source for current booking options.

Destination What to expect Booking information
Tel Aviv, Israel Shared and private rooms, common spaces, rooftop events and easy access to central neighborhoods. Abraham Tel Aviv
Eilat, Israel Dorms and private rooms, a pool and shared spaces near the city center and Red Sea. Abraham Eilat
Bohol, Philippines A stay on Panglao with pools, shared areas and access to island activities. Abraham Bohol
Jerusalem, Israel Historic Abraham location; closed to guests. Not bookable
Nazareth, Israel Historic Fauzi Azar by Abraham guesthouse; closed to guests. Not bookable

The Jerusalem and Nazareth closures followed the sharp fall in tourism after late 2023. In Jerusalem, Abraham’s former hostel building was repurposed as a community housing initiative. Details are documented in the group’s 2024 impact report; its 2025 report continues to describe the Jerusalem property as temporarily closed.

Abraham Tlalim Tours: travel beyond the checklist

A place is more than its famous buildings. On a good tour, you also learn whose neighborhood you are walking through, which communities depend on tourism, and why people may see the same history differently.

Abraham Tlalim Tours is the travel operation developed with the Tlalim Group. Its programs include history, culture, nature and community-focused experiences across Israel and nearby destinations. Some tours are guided; others provide a framework for more independent exploration. Destinations, departure dates and operating conditions must be checked on the current tour page before booking.

For us, a useful guide does more than recite dates. The best encounters give space to local stories, difficult questions and conversations that continue after the tour is over.

What responsible travel means to us

We believe tourism should do something useful for the places it depends on. That means buying from local businesses where possible, creating work for local guides, reducing waste and making space for people who do not usually meet.

The group’s 2025 impact report records practical examples: community-focused tours, collaborations with nonprofit organizations and the Abraham’s Tent support program. It also reports third-party sustainability certification under the Global Sustainable Tourism Council framework. Reports are public because commitments are more meaningful when people can see what has been measured and what still needs work.

Our values are straightforward:

  • Come as you are. Guests and colleagues deserve respect regardless of identity, background or belief.
  • We are all in this together. Travel should connect visitors with hosts, staff and local communities.
  • Take care of the places we visit. Environmental and social responsibility belong in everyday decisions, not just in slogans.
